Even though the COVID-19 pandemic is ending, the times ahead are still uncertain. Besides the worry of another pandemic, there’s also social and political unrest and an economy that feels rocky at best. It can be challenging for anybody to stay focused during these times, and if you’re an entrepreneur, you need to stay focused to run your business. Here are some tips on staying focused as an entrepreneur during times of uncertainty.

Accept things as they are

In therapy, there’s an idea called “radical acceptance.” It means giving up on fighting reality by saying things like “it shouldn’t be this way” or “this can’t be happening” and instead of accepting the situation for what it is. It doesn’t mean you approve of the problem or are not going to change it, it just allows you to see reality, and through that, you can better find solutions. Maybe you can’t change the world, but you can change your world.

Surround yourself with positivity

No matter what you do, there are going to be people you meet who disapprove. While there’s something to be said for constructive criticism, there’s a thin line between that and outright negativity. Avoid the people in your life who don’t support your endeavors, and surround yourself with people who do. Doing so will help you feel more confident and driven, even in times of uncertainty.

Make contingency plans

Imagining the worst possible outcomes can be a huge source of anxiety, but there is a way to harness that anxiety and make it productive. Planning for the worst possible situation is an excellent way to give you peace of mind amidst all the uncertainty, and it’s also just good business sense. Instead of figuring out what will happen next, look at all the possibilities and know what you’re going to do in each situation.

Times of uncertainty can be hard to navigate, but it’s not impossible. By accepting things as they are, surrounding yourself with positive people, and making plans for every possible outcome, you will be better equipped to stay focused during times of uncertainty.
